What Dental Implants Can Do for You

Missing teeth? Dental implants can transform your smile. Dental implants are metal posts that are inserted into the jaw. They provide a strong foundation for false teeth. Dental implants have made a difference in the lives of many people. Dean Street Dental, which is located in St. Charles, IL, offers dental implants to their patients. Dr. John Isbrandt is one of the top dentists in St. Charles, IL. Read on to find out what dental implants can do for you.

1. Improve Your Look- Missing teeth can affect your appearance and make you look old before your time. Dental implants can restore your smile, improve your appearance, and take years off your look. Dental implants are the next best thing to your original teeth. They offer a way to have artificial teeth that look beautiful and natural.

2. Easier Eating- When you have missing teeth, eating can be a challenge. Our teeth help us break down food for proper digestion. If you are missing teeth, you may have difficulty chewing food. Dental implants can help restore your ability to chew food. Dental implants will allow you to eat all the foods you love with confidence.

3. Prevent Teeth Shifting- Missing teeth can push your existing teeth out of alignment. When you lose a tooth, the surrounding teeth will begin to drift out of place. It can be frightening for patients to see their teeth drifting out of place. Dental implants can fill in the gaps in your smile and prevent your natural teeth from shifting out of place.

4. Improved Speech- Missing teeth can compromise your speech. Even one missing tooth can lead to mumbling and slurring of words. Ill-fitting dentures can also cause speech problems. Dental implants can improve your clarity of speech. With dental implants, you will feel more confident when speaking in public.

5. Stop Jawbone Loss- Jawbone loss is a common consequence of tooth loss. Without dental implants, your jawbone will begin to deteriorate. Jawbone is preserved through the stimulus and pressure of chewing. Dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that stops bone loss and stimulate bone growth.

Are you ready to find out whether dental implants are right for you?dental implants

While it was an exciting moment to lose a tooth as a child, we know that it’s anything but exciting when you lose a tooth as an adult. We all think this problem will never happen to us, but unfortunately for millions of American adults, it does. Luckily, our St. Charles, IL, dentist Dr. John Isbrandt is here to restore your smile with the next best thing to a real tooth: a dental implant.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium screw or post that takes the place of your missing tooth’s roots. The roots of a tooth are important because they provide the jawbone with the ample stimulation it needs. Without the presence of all tooth roots, the jawbone would deteriorate. This is why it’s so important to replace the tooth roots with an implant once a tooth falls out.

How does an implant work?

First, our St. Charles, IL, general dentist will need to examine your mouth and run X-rays to determine whether or not you are an ideal candidate for implants. Once we’ve determined that implants are right for you we will need to surgically place the implant into the jawbone. This procedure is minor and is performed right here in our office under local anesthesia (you’ll be able to go home right after the procedure).

Once the implant is placed in the jawbone we will give your mouth a few months to fully heal. During your recovery process, the jawbone and implant will fuse together.

Now that the implant and jawbone are one, the next step is to attach an abutment on top of the implant. In some cases, the abutment is already part of the implant so we won’t even have to attach it. The purpose of an abutment is to connect the implant with the artificial tooth.

The last step is to cement the tailor-made dental crown over the abutment to complete the restoration. Depending on which tooth and how many teeth you need to replace, the entire implant process can take several months or up to one year; however, that implant could end up lasting you the rest of your life.

Do you have questions about getting dental implants in St. Charles, IL? Do you think implants are the treatment option you’ve been looking for to finally say goodbye to tooth loss? If so, then call and schedule a consultation with Dr. Isbrandt today!

Let our experts answer all of your burning questions about dental implants.dental implants

Are you interested in getting dental implants? There is truly no better alternative to natural teeth than implants. Of course, you may not be sure this is the right treatment for you. This is why our St. Charles, IL, dentist, Dr. John Isbrandt, has answered some popular questions about dental implants to put your mind at ease and help make your decision easier.

Q. What are dental implants?

A. Implants are metal posts that are able to replace your missing tooth roots. They even function just like tooth roots by fusing together naturally with the bone and tissue. Once implants are in place, they will stay there permanently. From there, an abutment is placed over top of the implant. This structure’s sole purpose is to connect the implant with the dental crown that will be placed at the very end of your treatment.

Q. How are dental implants placed?

A. In order to get implants, you will have to undergo minor surgery. Not to worry, this procedure is performed right here in our office. During the procedure, we will place the implant under the gumline.

Q. How long does treatment take?

A. This will really depend on several factors including how healthy you are, how many implants we are placing and how well you care for your smile during the course of your treatment. It will take a couple of months for the bone and tissue to fuse together with the implant. The entire treatment could take anywhere from six months to one year or more to complete.

Q. Who is a good candidate for implants?

A. Anyone who maintains good oral and general health will most likely benefit from getting implants. Ideal candidates should also be non-smokers and not planning on becoming pregnant during the course of their treatment.

If you want to find out if you are a candidate for implants, then call our St. Charles, IL, dental office today to learn more. We are happy to sit down with you for a personal consultation to decide if dental implants are the best option.

The Effects of Missing Teeth

Missing teeth can adversely affect your quality of life. Missing teeth can cause a cascade of problems such as bone loss, chewing difficulty, speech problems, shifting of surrounding teeth and changes in the jaw joint. Missing teeth also makes people appear older than they are.

How Dental Implants Work

Dental implants are replacement tooth roots made of titanium that are inserted into the jawbone. After the bone has healed to the dental implant, an artificial tooth is secured to the top of the dental implant. Dental implants provide a strong foundation for replacement teeth.

The Dental Implant Procedure

Dental implant surgery is usually an outpatient surgery. You will be given anesthesia for the surgery. An incision will be made in your gums where the dental implant will go to expose the bone underneath. A hand tool will be used to create a space for the dental implant in the bone. The dental implant is then screwed in place with a hand tool. The gums are closed over the dental implant and stitches may be placed.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants are a life changer. Dental implants will restore your smile and make you look younger. Dental implants feel, function and look like natural teeth. Unlike dentures, Implants do not move or slip. Dental implants also help to prevent bone loss and stimulate bone growth.

Ideal Dental Implant Candidates

You are an ideal candidate for dental implants if you have healthy gums and adequate bone to support implants. The best candidates have healthy gum tissues that are free of gum disease. If you want to restore your smile, ask your St. Charles dentist if dental implants are an option for you.

Don't let life pass you by because of missing teeth. Say yes to dental implants! Dental implants will restore your smile and improve the quality of your life. Though dentures have been the go-to solution for patients with missing teeth in the past, more and more dentists are recommending dental implantsdental implants as the ideal alternative. It’s estimated that over 3 million Americans have them, and that number is increasing by leaps and bounds every year. Find out if dental implants by Dr. John Isbrandt at his St. Charles, IL office is the right choice for you.

The Dental Implant Procedure
Dental implantation may sound complicated, but it’s actually a pretty straightforward procedure. It starts with a consultation to ensure that you have enough healthy bone tissue to support the implant. After that appointment, another is scheduled to place the device, which resembles a small metal screw. At this visit, the surgeon thoroughly cleanses, prepares and sedates the area first before inserting the device. There’s a waiting period for the gums to heal and for the implant to integrate into the bone, then at the final appointment an abutment and crown are attached to give you a natural looking replacement tooth.

Benefits of Dental Implants
While other solutions are available for missing teeth, there are a few key benefits of choosing dental implants:

  • Long-term results (implants can last for 25 years or more).
  • They look and feel very natural—indistinguishable from your natural teeth.
  • No worries about the replacement tooth coming loose as with dentures.
  • Implants help keep your mouth healthy (the device keeps bone tissue from degrading).

If your goal is to have a natural looking and functioning smile for a long period of time, implants from your St. Charles dentist are the ideal choice.

Are They Right for You?
The sooner you go to the dentist for implants the better the chance that you’ll be a viable candidate. That’s because the healthier the bone tissue in your mouth is, the more likely it will successfully accept the implant. An X-ray can give definitive results as to whether this procedure will be right for you. In some cases, a bone grafting procedure can be done to give you more healthy tissue in advance of an implant.

Only your St. Charles, IL dentist can give you the final word as to whether dental implants will be a solution for your case. Call the office of Dr. Isbrandt at (630) 584-8787 today to schedule a convenient time for an appointment.
